Outside Sales Representative (Contract Position)

Since 1985, Empire Hydraulics & Machine has been a leading distributor of hydraulic components, cylinders, Pumps and Motors, hoses, fittings and Production CNC machining serves Empire is dedicated to improving their customers’ profitability and productivity, while enhancing the quality of our services.

Purpose of Position:  

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for establishing and maintaining profitable relationships with customers. The Outside Sales Representative has primary responsibility for ensuring that the products meet the customer’s needs and grows the Company’s customer base within the Pennsylvania territory.

Some Essential Duties

  • Identifies and targets customers in the Pennsylvania market based on revenue potential.
  • Works with distributor partners to promote Empire products and services by leading / supporting / coordinating efforts of these partners.
  • Develops and maintains good customer relations by providing prompt attention and resolution to customer’s needs, inquiries, or other communications.
  • Maintains list of current customers and tracks visits and sales history using excel spreadsheets; assists in obtaining firm purchase orders from the customer and monitors open orders to ensure timely delivery.

Some Position Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Sales preferred, but not required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of outside sales experience preferred.
  • Sales experience with an emphasis in hydraulics and filtration a plus.
  • Experience in Mobile Fluid Power/Hydraulics or Industrial Fluid Power/Hydraulics is a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to develop Power Point presentations and to communicate effectively during customer meetings.
  • Aptitude to maintain organized customer files containing account and customer information.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Some Required Personal Attributes

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, a winning attitude is important.
  • Self-starting attitude.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability and desire to learn full complex product line.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks.
  • Computer experience is required in:
    • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power-point, E-mail, Outlook Calendar.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in EBMS is a plus.
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast paced environment.

In February 2015, HarvestNet International coordinated and led the visit of five U.S. businessmen to a number of cities across India, including New Delhi, Razole, Rajahmundry, Bengaluru, Bangalore, Salem, Pune, and Goa.

The focus of this Business as Mission trip was to spend time with Indian businesses leaders, ministry directors, and pastors to exchange ideas and explore the various ways in which we might altruistically partner in the developing of India’s businesses. Our shared goal is to help these businesses to prosper sufficiently to enable them to support India’s orphanages, ministries, and churches without the need for international aid.

Wow! Our work is a gift of God. Our wealth, our possessions, are all derived from work and the work God has chosen for us to bear is our lot. If we could only agree with God, it would make our lives that much easier. It has been fascinating to me to watch so many people fight their career predicaments instead of following God’s guidance, as though they are ultimately the one who is responsible to navigate through their careers!

Make a decision to ensure you’re in alignment with God. This means embrace your current situation, make the best of it and lead to excellence. Ensure that the people who work for you are properly placed, so that the right people are on the right seats of the bus. If you are not a fit for your current organization, have the courage to make a change today.

If you come to work every day thanking God for your opportunity, your employees know it.  Your employees will do amazing things to help you become successful when they know you are grateful for them and your organization. When you do this, you are building a “Kingdom Minded” Organization.

Encouragement At Work Series, The Danger of the Weakest Link


The craving of a sluggard will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work.

One of the most difficult aspects of being a Christian leader is disciplining those who are not pulling their weight. Many weak leaders will ignore the behavior or even have one of their other direct reports try to intervene. Not addressing the weakest link, can destroy a team.

Employee performance issues are an inevitable part of the workplace.

Do you know a leader who will do almost anything possible to avoid having to face the disciplining of the rogue employee? We all have met many leaders who lack the fortitude to lead! Poor performers are sometimes an inevitable part of the workplace and, as a Christian leader; you are called not only by the organization but also by the word of God to manage them. Now, don’t use this as a way to tell them the Bible told you so, but you understand the point. Be brave, leader; know that your motivated employees, your stars, want to see you manage the poor performer. You owe it to them.

Be passionate and direct and manage those who are hurting your organization and you will be ensuring that you are building the strong foundation of a ‘Kingdom Minded” Organization.
