HR Manager – Engle Printing & Publishing Co., Inc. (EPC) 

This hands-on position is responsible for leading all company-wide human resources operations, programs, and services. Under the direction of the CEO, the HR Manager will provide direction for recruiting, developing, motivating, and evaluating human capital in order to inspire employee engagement and foster a workplace culture of excellence and prosperity.

Celebrating over 70 years in 2024, the community and family-oriented EPC seeks to continue its tradition of offering quality commercial printing services, community newspapers, and lifestyle/leisure publications while expanding its business and marketing solutions into the online media space.

Purpose:

The Human Resources Manager will oversee the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) Department and support the business by: recruiting staff, and administering pay, benefits, leave, company policies and practices. This position will impact and influence EPC teams and business operations in the following key areas:

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
  • Lead recruiting activities for exempt and non-exempt positions with job postings, reviewing resumes, interviewing, candidate communication, hiring, onboarding and maintaining the appropriate records.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and compliance with EPC policies and procedures and their communication to the employees.
  •  Work closely with production management to optimize employee performance in support of business and safety goals.
  • Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Coordinate State of Pennsylvania Workers Compensation (WC) program within the company and work closely with the WC Carrier.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, other relevant field of study, or equivalent years of experience. SHRM Certification is a plus.
  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience resulting in strong Generalist expertise.
  •  2+ years prior recruiting or talent acquisition experience. Experience hiring for hourly roles and shift workers is a plus.
  •  Effective communicator, able to articulate ideas clearly and concisely in a variety of settings, adjusting the message to match the audience. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers and leadership.
  • Knowledge of employee and labor relations laws, regulations, and practices.
  • Be available to work a standard schedule at the company office (onsite) coming in at 6 AM two or three days per month to meet with third-shift supervisors, managers and staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or GSuite with documents, spreadsheets, presentations, email and video conferencing.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, financial reports or
  • governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and standard operating procedures.
  •  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages.

Randall L. Wenger, Esq.

Randall Wenger is Chief Counsel of the Independence Law Center in Harrisburg, a pro-bono law center affiliated with the Pennsylvania Family Institute and dedicated to maintaining those liberties that have made America great and free. He has litigated in federal courts all around the county, and his cases have included the free exercise of religion, freedom of speech, bodily privacy, and pro-life issues. In addition to his role with the Independence Law Center, he is COO of the Pennsylvania Family Institute.

Randall has an economics degree from the University of Chicago and earned his J.D. at the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Lancaster County, and he and his wife Tina have seven children.

The Executive Assistant to the President will assist the President and Executive VP along with executive team as needed.

Some Responsibilities Include:

Personal Assistant:

  1. Serve as a personal assistant to the president and executive vice president to conserve their time and promote the corporate image by representing them internally and externally; providing liaison between the president, key executives, and employees.
  2. Represent the president by welcoming visitors, reviewing correspondence; arranging company dinners and other corporate functions; answering questions and meeting requests directed to the president.
  3. Help key executives make consistent decisions by advising them of historical precedents; serving as liaison between them and the president.
  4. Arrange corporate and personal travel and meetings by developing itineraries and agendas; scheduling transportation; arranging lodging and meeting accommodations.

Administrative:

  1. Scan and Forward any invoices received via mail and all packing slips to the Financial Assistant.
  2. Scan and deposit all checks received.
  3. Assist in sending emails to large groups utilizing current software.

Reception:

  1. Receive all guests to Veritas Press.
  2. Maintain Visitor Log as directed.

Office Maintenance and Supplies:

  1. Order supplies as needed.
  2. Maintain organization of curriculum library.
  3. Maintain break room and supply room tidiness.
  4. Facilitate office cleaning with 3rd party vendor.
  5. Opens, sorts and delivers all corporate mail.

Projects:

  1. Utilizes project management software as directed.
  2. Assists with data entry within project management software.
  3. Coordinates and helps facilitate projects within project management software as directed by project lead.

Human Resources:

  1. Assists new employee onboarding as directed.
  2. Compiles new employee paperwork packet.
  3. Maintains employee files.
  4. Assists Director of Operations with administration of benefits.

Some Requirements Include:

  1. A bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not required.
  2. Conversant with and supportive of the reformed faith and classical Christian education according to the VPSA Statement of Faith and Philosophy.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  4. Moderate mathematical skills and the ability to apply them to practical situations
  5. Able to work diligently without direct supervision.
  6. Proficient in handling detailed work.
  7. Wiling to continually learn various types of software.
  8. Experience with typical MS Office Suite products, Gmail, general computer skills, etc.
  9. Work to constantly expand abilities by gaining further training in areas of weakness.
  10. General account/bookkeeping experience is helpful.

The Director of Operations will oversee all aspects of routine operations including AP, AR, HR, technology and special events under direction of VP of Finance and Administration with goal of maximizing revenues, planning for future growth, and containing costs at optimal levels.

Some Responsibilities Include:

  1. Negotiating terms and discounts with vendors of materials, curriculum and services.
  2. Oversee or actually purchase and maintain curriculum materials, update pricing and materials in MOM and Magento, acquire review copies, and research alternative materials, while working to minimize back orders and problem items.
  3. Assist VSA staff with course kit development, pricing, and structure.
  4. Oversee organizational health insurance policies.
  5. Oversee the operational systems, processes and policies in support of the company mission through management reporting, information flow and management, business processes and organizational planning for future needs.
  6. Play a significant role in long-term planning, including initiatives geared toward operational and fiscal planning.
  7. Assist Vice Presidents of Curriculum Development, Educational Services, Marketing, and International Business with special projects as appropriate.
  8. Manage facilities, including coordination with technology contractors, custodial services, property management, and facilities contractors.
  9. Continually seek to improve operational systems by reviewing other systems and researching alternatives.
  10. Coordinate and manage all aspects of special projects.
  11. Oversee website maintenance.
  12. Oversee management of warehouse, including shipping practices, employee scheduling, supply purchasing, receiving and stocking of materials, liquidation of overstock or damaged products, and annual inventory activities.
  1. Oversee the security of Veritas’s customer data including PCI compliance.
  2. Partner with management to ensure operational excellence;
  3. Develop operations system improvements by analyzing process work flow, manning and space requirements, and implementing changes when necessary;
  4. Foster an environment of teamwork while developing employees to achieve goals and objectives.
  5. Other responsibilities as determined by the Vice President of Finance and Administration.

Some Requirements Include:

  1. A bachelor’s degree
  2. Conversant with and supportive of the reformed faith and classical Christian education according to the VSA Statement of Faith and Philosophy.
  3. Extensive business administration experience is highly desirable.
  4. Experience with financial management and assisting executive staff.
  5. Work in the headquarters office in Lancaster, PA.
  6. Willing to work long hours when needed.
  7. Tech savvy and experience with generic office products.
  1. Strong ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) experience
    1. Experience in implementation of software and process improvement initiatives.
    2. Experience in warehouse management and fulfillment including software and databases
    3. Experience with ecommerce
