Asbury Theological Seminary, one of the largest and most respected seminaries in the U.S., is undergoing an exciting period of growth and transformation. Asbury has proudly retained IHN HR as their human resources partners, and we are excited to assist in their search for a talented Manager of Communications (Director Level) to help lead this dynamic chapter.

Position Summary

The Manager/Director of Communications will provide strategic leadership in planning, developing, and executing communication initiatives that support the Seminary’s mission and institutional priorities.  This role will serve as the external voice for the president and faculty. This is a unique opportunity for a leader who sees communications as a calling, not just a career—a chance to shape the Seminary’s voice, tell our story, and build meaningful connections both locally and globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership:
    Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy aligned with our mission, vision, and strategic plan.
  • Brand Stewardship:
    Serve as the primary guardian of Asbury’s brand identity, ensuring consistency and impact across all platforms.
  • Storytelling and Media Relations:
    Craft compelling narratives, foster strong media relationships, and lead crisis communication efforts.
  • Internal Engagement:
    Foster a culture of transparency and connection through robust internal communications.
  • Digital & Multimedia Oversight:
    Guide our digital presence, leveraging analytics to inform decisions and engage audiences.
  • Team Leadership:
    Build, mentor, and inspire a creative team, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Budget & Project Management:
    Oversee project workflows, manage resources, and ensure measurable outcomes.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: 7–10 years in communications, PR, or marketing, with at least 3–5 years in leadership.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • Skills: Ability to work in a matrix environment and cross-functionally.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, strategic thinking, digital savvy, and proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Expertise in public relations, media relations, and crisis communications.
  • Proficiency in project management software and CRM.

Personal Qualities:

    • Deep, maturing Christian faith and understanding of Wesleyan doctrine.
    • Executive presence and the ability to articulate faith authentically.
    • Collaborative spirit, humility, and a heart for service.
